Trans-Tasman travel stays closed to Queensland, NSW

From Checkpoint, 5:17 pm on 5 July 2021

The trans-Tasman bubble will reopen for Western Australia and Northern Territory from midnight Friday, but will stay closed for Queensland and New South Wales.

New Zealanders stuck in those states won't be stranded though. From the same time on Friday, they will be able to board green flights as long as they meet certain conditions.

Speaking a short time ago at Parliament, the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Covid-19 Minister Chris Hipkins laid out the extra layers of protection.

Travellers coming from any Australian state will have to test negative for Covid-19 before boarding a plane.

The travel pause with Queensland will be reviewed on Wednesday, but will remain in place for New South Wales indefinitely.
