The police watchdog is reopening its inquiry into the fatal shooting of Rotorua man Shargin Stephens by an officer.
The Independent Police Conduct Authority says it will now take an "in-depth review" of the 2016 case, after RNZ revealed significant discrepancies in the official story of the police shooting.
