Guests at the Novotel Auckland Airport were told earlier on Tuesday they must stay beyond their mandated 14 days in MIQ, because two others have Covid-19.

The travellers who arrived from Dubai and Moscow have tested positive for the virus on their Day 12 test.

The Ministry of Health says it is standard protocol to rule out the virus transmitting within the facility.

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins talks to Lisa Owen.

Update: Soon after this interview, Ministry of Health confirmed genome sequencing has determined in-facility transmission of Covid-19 at the Novotel Auckland Airport managed isolation facility was unlikely.
