Ruapehu District Council is plugging a giant water leak with a $20,000 fund.
Every day in the township of Ohakune hundreds of thousands of litres of water is wasted through various unidentified leaks and dodgy pipes.
So the council is offering up to $200 to 100 households for plumbing work, in a bid to stem the flow. Ruapehu District Mayor Don Cameron explains how much water is going down the gurgler.
