From Checkpoint, 6:15 pm on 15 June 2021

Warning: Some of the details in this report may upset some listeners.

Survivors have painfully recounted being dragged kicking and screaming to electric shock treatment while in state care.

First-hand accounts from people given the treatment as a punishment while in the Lake Alice Psychiatric Hospital in the 1970s have been heard at the Abuse in Care inquiry.

Our reporter, Andrew McRae has been at the hearing in Auckland.
