Senior gang members arrested as police work with FBI in global sting

From Checkpoint, 5:06 pm on 8 June 2021

The net has fallen over several senior gang members today, charged with a myriad of drug and money laundering offences.

Police are calling it the world's most sophisticated law enforcement action against organised crime.

The FBI-led Operation Trojan Shield has resulted in 37 raids across the North Island.

So far, 35 people - including senior Comancheros, Mongrel Mob Waikato and Headhunters members - have been charged.

Police have seized $3.7 million in assets so far, including 12 vehicles and two vessels, as well as nine kilograms of methamphetamine and four firearms.

Our reporter Nick Truebridge and cameraman Nick Monro have the story.
