ACC claims process broken - sexual abuse survivors

From Checkpoint, 6:11 pm on 18 May 2021

Sexual abuse survivors say the ACC claims process is broken. Figures revealed today show almost nobody makes it through the system with approval.

Only 32 percent of sexual abuse claims are approved, and those who make it through say the process is traumatising, frustrating and long.

They say the system needs a complete overhaul.

Ben Strang reports.

*This story originally said that 95 percent of sexual abuse claims did not make it through the ACC system. This data was provided to RNZ by ACC. That data was accurate but did not reflect all claimants who made sensitive claims, as some sexual abuse/assault claims were coded with terms other than 'sexual abuse'. The figures have now been changed to reflect all sensitive claims.
