Govt bankrolls pay parity for thousands of ECE teachers

From Checkpoint, 5:45 pm on 12 May 2021

Thousands of early childhood teachers will get a pay rise next year thanks to a $170-million funding boost announced by the government today.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins says the money will be used to give teachers at least the same pay as the first six steps on kindergarten teachers' 11-step pay scale.

That gives them pay parity with kindergarten and school teachers with the same qualifications and experience.
