Killers jailed for life, 34 years after Red Fox tavern shooting

From Checkpoint, 5:24 pm on 7 May 2021

Cold case closed: Almost 34 years after Chris Bush was shot dead at the Red Fox Tavern in Maramarua, two men have finally been jailed for life for the crime.

Mark Hoggart and another man with name suppression were found guilty of murdering the father of two and robbing the pub of tens of thousands of dollars following a seven-week trial in the High Court at Auckland earlier this year.

After a decades-long wait for justice, today's sentencing has finally given Chris Bush's widow and daughters a sense of closure and relief.

Sarah Robson has been covering the case and filed this story.
