Govt limits Abuse in Care inquiry scope as commission looks at years extension

The government has made drastic changes to the Royal Commission into Abuse in Care's inquiry, meaning abuse that's happened over the last 22 years can no longer be investigated.

The inquiry is examining abuse of people in state and faith-based care between 1950 and 1999 but it was also given discretion to look outside of that time period.

The Internal Affairs Minister, Jan Tinetti, has now removed this power. But survivor advocates say the change is dreadful, shortsighted and they want the government to reverse its decision.
