Red Fox trial: Not enough evidence, defence lawyers argue

From Checkpoint, 5:48 pm on 24 March 2021

Lawyers for the two men on trial over the Red Fox Tavern shooting and robbery more than 30 years ago have told the jury there's nowhere near enough evidence to find them guilty.

Chris Bush was gunned down at the pub in Maramarua in October 1987 and the offenders fled with tens of thousands of dollars.

Mark Hoggart and another man who cannot be named are charged with murder and aggravated robbery.

Their trial in the High Court at Auckland is coming to an end, with defence lawyers giving their closing addresses to the jury.

RNZ reporter Sarah Robson has the story.
