America's Cup: Viaduct waits for Team NZ's victorious return

From Checkpoint, 6:08 pm on 17 March 2021

Team New Zealand has tasted sweet victory in the America's Cup this evening holding off the challenge of Luna Rossa to take the oldest cup in sport. As the champagne-soaked crew coasted into home base at Auckland's Viaduct Harbour,

Skipper Peter Burling described today's win as "absolutely unreal" and better than Bermuda because of the home support from fans.

Burling said he'd been swamped with messages including one from the Prime Minister.

Cabinet has also signalled $5 million to help boost Team New Zealand's next defence.
