In a tweet on Friday morning, Wellington chef Martin Bosley said he felt sorry for Auckland's hospitality sector as it had to wait until 11:30am to find out about moving Covid-19 alert levels.

In response the Prime Minister's partner Clarke Gayford said an in-principle decision had been decided but was pending on final test results.

At the press conference where Jacinda Ardern announced Auckland would move to alert level 1 at midday, she answered questions from Lisa Owen, saying Gayford was not made privy to the government decision before the public.
