Limiting trucks on Harbour Bridge at least 10 years away - NZTA

The brakes won't go on trucks on the Auckland Harbour Bridge for at least a decade if at all according to Waka Kotahi.

On average about 170,000 vehicles cross the bridge everyday and over the years it's been reinforced several times with various bits bolted on.

But this week its been revealed further strengthening is not possible.

That's raised concerns about whether it can cope with heavy traffic over the next few years or if limits need to put on trucks crossing the bridge.

Waka Kotahi's Brett Gliddon talks through the options.
