Govt seeks solution as Whakatāne Mill faces closure

From Checkpoint, 6:15 pm on 24 February 2021

Officials are scrambling to see if they can do anything for the Whakatāne Mill, where more than 200 jobs are at risk.

As the largest private employer in the eastern Bay of Plenty, the mill is slated to close after more than 80 years.

The East Coast MP Kiri Allan is planning to meet management and the Minister for Small Business, Stuart Nash, says the government will be working to see what else - if anything - can be done.
