Abuse, drugs, gang members common at CYFs carer's home

From Checkpoint, 6:20 pm on 12 February 2021

A Crown witness says physical and sexual abuse, drug taking and visits from patched gang members were common at a former CYFs home run by a man now on trial for the abuse of six teenage boys.

Earl Opetaia is on trial in the High Court in Auckland, now facing 27 charges including sexual violation, after six charges were dropped earlier today.

The witness told the court he was "just a kid" at the time of the alleged offending, and says Mr Opetaia told him he'd go to jail if he didn't follow orders.
