Expert discusses Oxford vaccine, South Africa Covid-19 strain

South Africa's put the brakes on its roll out of a million doses of the Astra-Zeneca Oxford Vaccine - despite a surge in new Covid-19 cases there.

It comes after showing in some cases it had little effect against the variant now spreading quickly in South Africa.

New Zealand has a pre-purchase agreement for three-point-eight million does of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Otago University's Professor David Murdoch is an infectious disease expert, is on the government's vaccine strategy taskforce and is an independent Member of the Clinical Trials Steering Committee for the University of Oxford Covid-19 vaccine trials. He talks to Lisa Owen.
