The gas fitter who worked on a Christchurch home the day before it exploded has been ordered to pay victims more than $130,000.

Gregory Smith was part way through fixing a gas fire at the Northwood home when he did not disconnect its gas pipe and failed to tell the homeowner.
The next day the house exploded - destroying the house and injuring six people. Sally Murphy reports.
