From Checkpoint, 5:29 pm on 2 December 2020

Vets are hopeful a police dog that was shot in the jaw near Dargaville yesterday will eventually be able to return to work.

Police are not yet releasing the name of the dog, or specific details about his injuries. The dog was allegedly shot by a man who was in turn shot three times by police.

The man was rushed to hospital and is receiving medical treatment.

Today vet Alastair Coomer told Checkpoint reporter Nita Blake-Persen the dog is still in a serious but stable condition.
