The average Auckland household will pay more than $100 more in rates next year if Auckland Council's proposed budget gets the tick.

Mayor Phil Goff has announced a proposed one-off five percent rates rise as part of its Covid-19 recovery plan.

The council is forecast to lose $1 billion in revenue because of Covid-19, over the next four years. Goff says the budget prioritises Auckland's recovery from the pandemic.

He said the rates rise will return to 3.5 percent after next year's one-off five percent hike.
