Auckland Zoo's elephants to leave in search of herd

From Checkpoint, 5:32 pm on 25 November 2020

The last two elephants in New Zealand are being moved overseas, after multiple attempts to expand the herd failed. Auckland Zoo's female Asian Elephants, Anjalee and Burma, will be transported by plane to join a new family herd at a yet to be determined location.

Checkpoint reporter Nick Truebridge and cameraman Simon Rogers dropped into the Auckland Zoo this afternoon.

Nick started by asking Zoo director Kevin Buley what challenges staff faced in trying to breed a family of elephants.
