School still fighting for safety at Auckland cycleway

From Checkpoint, 5:54 pm on 22 October 2020

A central Auckland school community is continuing its fight to get a nearby cycleway upgraded after the project was stalled by the fall out of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Newton Central School canned its walking bus three years ago after several near misses and abuse was hurled at children by some cyclists on the Northwestern Cycleway.

Auckland Transport was set to upgrade nearly a kilometre of the shared path with separated spaces for cyclists and pedestrians this year.

But no progress has been made, much to the frustration of locals.

RNZ Auckland Council issues reporter Jean Bell and video journalist Dan Cook filed this report.
