Police have confirmed they're investigating complaints of drug taking at a prison unit where child sex offenders live.
Te Korowai is based on the grounds, but outside the wire of Rimutaka prison, in Upper Hutt.
One resident - a convicted paedophile - has spoken to RNZ saying other residents are smoking synthetic cannabis while authorities turn a blind eye.
People nearby Rimutaka Prison say they're not surprised - while the local mayor says it's unnacceptable.
