Covid-19 alert level 1 for Aucklanders, but warnings to be careful

From Checkpoint, 6:07 pm on 5 October 2020

Auckland's move from level two to level one has been met with overwhelming support from residents strolling Queen Street this afternoon.

Checkpoint reporter Nick Truebridge and camerman Nick Monro hit the CBD just after Prime Minsiter Jacinda Ardern's 1pm announcement.

The two Nicks couldn't find anyone who disagreed with the decision to move the City of Sails to level one from 11.59pm on Wednesday.

But some called for their fellow Aucklanders to remain vigilant by wearing masks and keeping their distance. Auckland's move to level 1 means it's game on between New Zealand and Australia at Eden Park on Sunday 18.

The second Bledisloe Cup Test would've been passed to Dunedin if Auckland remained in level two restrictions. Advance ticket sales for the Eden Park game kick off at 10am tomorrow, with public sale to follow from midday Thursday.
