Covid-19: 12 new cases in managed isolation from India flight

From Checkpoint, 5:21 pm on 1 October 2020

The largest number of imported cases of Covid-19 in a month were reported today, but health officials say this shows the system is working.

There were 12 cases in managed isolation today - of whom ten were on the same flight from India - but no new community cases for the fifth day in a row.

Ashley Bloomfield is on leave and the Ministry of Health's Director of Public Health, Doctor Caroline McElnay, stood in for him at the regular press conference this afternoon.

She told reporters that while a dozen cases sounds like a lot, the public shouldn't be alarmed because the border control system is designed to handle it.
