It was all about New Zealand's farmers on Wednesday as the National and Labour Party leaders hit the campaign trail once again after last night's election debate.

The pressure on the rural sector featured strongly in that debate, with National accusing Labour and the Greens of "bagging" farmers - dairy farmers in particular - for years, and contributing to high levels of anxiety and stress.

Labour launched a policy making it easier for farmers to navigate new environmental, compliance and animal welfare obligations, but denies that's because they were too cumbersome in the first place.
