Young people stuck in New Zealand due to travel restrictions are now able to enrol in school as temporary domestic students until the end of the year.
It's likely to affect about 1,300 students, some who may have missed out on months of education while stuck in New Zealand.
But Education Minster Chris Hipkins says he is not sure if the support will be extended past 2020.
