Labour is vowing to create a new top tax tier for people earning more than $180,000 a year if it is re-elected into government.
The party unveiled its tax policy in Wellington on Wednesday, saying its plans strike the right balance for the Covid-19 recovery. The increased tax rate would affect two percent of New Zealanders, and raise $550 million a year.
But Labour's allies and its opponents are already criticising the plan.
The Greens say it doesn't go far enough, while National thinks there are more taxes to come.
