A man in his 50s who had Covid-19 has died in Middlemore Hopsital.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed he was linked to the Auckland cluster - it takes New Zealand's Covid-19 death toll to 23.

The death comes as five new cases of the virus were reported today, two from recent arrivals already in quarantine, and three community cases linked to the Auckland cluster.

The Prime Minister's announced Auckland and the rest of New Zealand will stay at their current Covid-19 alert level settings for at least another 12 days to curb the outbreak.

Ministers will review those settings again on Monday September 14.

If they agree to any change, it will take place two days later.
