Survivors face 'maggot' Christchurch terrorist for third day

From Checkpoint, 5:08 pm on 26 August 2020

Warning: This story contains details some may find distressing.

Brenton Tarrant has been described as a piece of trash in another day of emotive - at times angry - victim impact statements at his sentencing in Christchurch.

The judge is expected to hand down his sentence tomorrow, on 51 charges of murder, 40 charges of attempted murder, and a charge of committing a terrorist act.

For much of the week, Tarrant has sat expressionless as nearly 80 victim impact statements have been read to the court.

But that hasn't stopped those whose lives have been turned upside by his actions, describing their torment.

Checkpoint reporter Logan Church is at the High Court in Christchurch.
