Māori health leaders urge Oranga Tamariki to share budget with iwi

From Checkpoint, 5:46 pm on 30 July 2020

Maori health leaders want Oranga Tamariki to share its budget and resources with iwi organisations - and the Children's Commissioner agrees.

A Waitangi Tribunal hearing has today heard how parts of the Oranga Tamariki Act still undermine the role of whānau, hapū and iwi in the protection of tamariki.

And Māori leaders say if Oranga Tamariki worked in partnership with iwi organisations it would allow them to better manage children and their families.

Meriana Johnsen was at the Waitangi Tribunal hearing.
