Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has cut short a trip to Queensland to focus on the country's Covid-19 crisis. Victoria reported 384 new cases on Tuesday - down from the record 532 on Monday.

Another six people have died - four of them linked to aged care homes. Morrison says the outbreak in such facilities is becoming a major concern for health officials.

At least 80 aged care facilities have coronavirus outbreaks, and almost 700 workers and patients are infected.

Victorian premier Daniel Andrews says all elective surgery - other than the most urgent operations - will be put on hold to increase capacity in the health system.
