From Checkpoint, 6:13 pm on 8 July 2020

The National Party is in damage control mode, and urgently looking for a new candidate for its Southland electorate. It comes after MP Hamish Walker confessed to leaking the personal details of 18 Covid-19 cases to media. Hamish Walker will not seek re-election at this year's election, after Leader Todd Muller wrote to the board asking him to be removed from the Party. His resignation completely derailed what was set to be a big election year announcement from National today - the party is promising to build an Ashburton to Christchurch Expressway.
