Police raid BoP Mongol gang properties, charge leaders

From Checkpoint, 5:40 pm on 23 June 2020

The police say they have disestablished the senior hierarchy of the Mongols gang in New Zealand after raiding properties in the Bay of Plenty on Tuesday.

Ten patched members are now before the court facing more than 200 charges - including participating in an organised criminal group, money laundering and firearms offences.

The development comes after escalating violence in the Bay of Plenty region as gangs - both new and old - fight over drug territories. Anneke Smith filed this report.
