The Housing Minister Megan Woods is stepping in to take charge of the managed isolation and quarantine, after a series of failures.

This week it was revealed that two Covid-19 positive women were able to leave isolation on compassionate leave, without being tested.

RNZ has also received multiple reports of people mixing freely within the facilities, including those at different stages of the 14-day period and of other people not being tested when they should have.

Now Ms Woods, will work alongside Air Commodore Darryn "Digby" Webb to ensure our first line of defence against Covid-19 is as watertight as the government promised.

RNZ political reporter, Yvette McCullough has the story.
