The director-general of health is anticipating he will recommend the government consider loosening level 2 restrictions, or even a move to level 1.

New Zealand has recorded its fourth consecutive day with no new cases of Covid-19. At Thursday's briefing, Dr Ashley Bloomfield said the response to the global pandemic is looking very promising.

At this stage, 97 percent of all cases have recovered. There are only seven regions with active cases now - a combined total of 30 active cases - while nine of the country's 20 DHBs have reported no new cases for more than 28 days.

The country's total number of confirmed and probable cases stands at 1503.
