Covid-19: 200 NZME staff face job losses

From Checkpoint, 5:38 pm on 14 April 2020

Two hundred jobs are on the chopping block at media company NZME - the latest hard blow to hit the sector.

NZME, which owns the New Zealand Herald, regional papers, and radio stations including Newstalk ZB, is having to axe the positions, which make up 15 percent of its workforce, due to sliding advertising revenue.

It is also asking remaining staff to take a 15 percent pay cut for the next three months.

The news follows a hit to the industry earlier this month when Bauer - one of New Zealand's leading magazine publishers, closed with the loss of 237 jobs.

And as Emma Hatton reports, more job losses for the media sector are likely.
