Covid-19 lockdown: Treasury warns NZ to face severe hit, high unemployment

New Zealand's economy is in for a hammering. The Treasury has warned a severe hit is coming, with predictions the unemployment rate could climb well into the double digits.

The bleak predictions come as the number of cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand continues to rise. Another 61 cases on Wednesday brought the total to 708.

Fourteen people are in hospital with two in intensive care - but in stable condition.

The number of tests being conducted is rising too - but the rate slowed over the weekend - the Prime Minister wants to turn that around.
