More than twenty cases of Covid-19 have been linked to a St Patrick's Day party at a bar in the small Waikato town of Matamata.

The Waikato District Health Board has confirmed there are now 23 cases in the area - three of those people working in bars and restaurants in Matamata.

Most have been identified as attending the celebration at the Redoubt bar on March 17, or they're directly linked to those who attended.

It's believed the original source had recently traveled overseas, but the cluster is being investigated for community transmission.

Katie Scotcher has the details.
