Flu vaccines: Low-risk NZers asked to wait until April for shot

From Checkpoint, 6:13 pm on 18 March 2020

A mass flu vaccination programme will get underway early this year ahead of the coming flu season.

The government is concerned the health system might not be able to cope with the added of burden of Covid-19.

So the government is promising 400,000 more vaccines will be made available for the certain groups - including people over 65, pregnant women, people with certain chronic conditions, and young children with a severe respiratory illness.

Health care workers will also be given a free vaccine.

But questions remain as to whether there will be enough for everyone else.

Associate Health Minister Julie Anne Genter spoke to Checkpoint reporter Logan Church in Wellington.
