Covid-19: Pasifika cancelled, pop-up planned - is it safe?

From Checkpoint, 5:48 pm on 13 March 2020

An Auckland businesswoman has set up a pop-up Pasifika, saying it is unfair the festival's been cancelled when other events have not been.

Auckland Council has canned the festival due to be held at Western Springs this weekend over concerns that Covid-19 could be transmitted back to the islands.

That's even though the risk is very low - New Zealand does not currently have community transmission and only has five confirmed cases.

Business woman Laura Keill Hall is inviting disappointed Pasifika stall holders - including those from the Islands - to set up at South Auckland's Pacific Business Hub.

But it comes with a disclaimer people enter at their own risk.
