NZ govt responds to US-EU travel ban

From Checkpoint, 6:10 pm on 12 March 2020

The government here doesn't appear to be readying to follow in the United States footsteps with its Europe travel ban.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says New Zealand has been tough and swift with border restrictions, and it will continue to be - based on expert advice.

Health Minister David Clark told reporters the US is in a different position to New Zealand. Finance Minister Grant Robertson says the US ban could have an economic impact.

Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters says every country needs to make decisions based on what they think is right.

He says the US is clearly responding to the World Health Organisation declaring the coronavirus a pandemic.
