The Prime Minister has announced a relief package for drought-hit areas around New Zealand, unlocking millions of dollars in financial support.

Jacinda Ardern visited the Far North to see the parched conditions for herself, and said it highlighted the increase in extreme weather events across the country.

The package includes $10 million for immediate relief, like delivering water and stock welfare - but some farmers say it's still not enough, with the dire situation taking its toll.
