Covid-19: Italy in lockdown, NZ travellers seeking answers

From Checkpoint, 5:14 pm on 10 March 2020

Italy is officially in lockdown, after the government extended its coronavirus quarantine measures to the entire country.

Italy is the worst affected country in Europe, with nearly 500 dead from the illness in the two and a half weeks since it was first discovered there.

There's now a ban on all public gatherings and people are only allowed to travel for work.

New Zealand's government is advising against all non-essential travel to Italy, and officials are looking at whether stricter border controls are needed for people arriving from there.
