NZ predator free 2050 plan unveiled, but light on detail

From Checkpoint, 5:51 pm on 9 March 2020

The Conservation Minister has unveiled plans to make New Zealand predator free by 2050, but admits we don't yet have the science to get there.

The plan includes short-term goals, like wiping out possums or mustelids from at least one city within the next five years.

But scientists say the plan is noticeably light on detail and shy on things like gene editing technologies.

Minister Eugenie Sage launched the strategy at Otari-Wilton's Bush in Wellington on Monday morning.
