Zero police tolerance for extremist rhetoric as March 15 nears

From Checkpoint, 6:20 pm on 3 March 2020

The Police Minister says officers are continuing to investigate a threat against the Muslim community and will not tolerate any extremist rhetoric.

It comes after messages were posted on the encrypted messaging app Telegram on Sunday, targeting members of the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch.

The threat comes ahead of the first anniversary of the March 15th terror attack last year, which killed 51 worshipers at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques.

The police have increased patrols around the mosques following the threat, a move which is being welcomed by a hero from the shootings.
