The Prime Minister says she is devastated that members of the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch have been the target of a terror threat.

It's almost a year on from the March 15 terror attack, in which 51 people were killed and many more were injured at the Al Noor and Linwood mosques.

The police say they're investigating the threat, which was reportedly made on Sunday. Jacinda Ardern told reporters at her post-Cabinet press conference that she was yet to receive a briefing on the threat, but she had seen media reports.

Jacinda Ardern says she feels a "huge sense of responsibility" as a result of the March 15 attack.

In a statement, the police said they wouldn't provide details on any security matters ahead of the anniversary of the terror attack, but they're working closely with several organisations to "ensure the safety of our communities".
