Prosecutions possible after Dreamworld fatal tragedy

From Checkpoint, 5:21 pm on 24 February 2020

A Queensland coroner has referred the owner of Dreamworld to authorities for possible prosecution over the deaths of four people on the Thunder River Rapids water ride in 2016.

Coroner James McDougall delivered a scathing assessment of the deaths which occurred after the ride malfunctioned and the raft flipped backwards. The four who died included Zealand-born woman and mother of two Cindy Low.

The Coroner strongly criticised the theme park, saying it had "systemic safety failures" and he could find no evidence of an engineering risk assessment in the 30-year history of the ride.

And as Jordan Bond reports, he said it was only a matter of time before someone died.
