A Qantas flight with New Zealand and Australian passengers from the Diamond Princess is due to leave Yokohama for Darwin in the coming hours.
Those passengers will then be transported on a chartered commercial flight to Auckland where they will arrive on Thursday night.
"I just interviewed a professor, visited the Diamond Princess yesterday, he has responded to Cholera, Ebola, MERS, SARS. He told me he's never been more frightened than by what he saw on the ship," CNN's Will Ripley tells Lisa Owen.
