The Crown has opened its case against a West Auckland man who attacked his mother with a hammer before fleeing the scene and calling the police.
Martin Marinovich is on trial in the High Court at Auckland - accused of murdering his 59-year-old mother in their Oratia home.
Noeleen Marinovich was found covered in a blanket - with at least twelve blows to her head - last February.
